Grand Master Richard “Huk” Planas Bring His Teaching to FMAC

During the 1960’s the cultural rage beginning to grapple with the influential minds of children, teens, and young adults was fueled by the introduction of a peace-seeking society ravaged by the paradoxical military upheavals and the new era of televised real-time events.

The Hollywood-isms embraced the existence of the Asian inclusion of Martial Arts brought to the Hawaiian and similar regions during the Japanese immigration and war internment influx from the 1930’s onward and was played out on screen with a new spin …to entertain.

Suddenly, Martial Arts schools began popping up nationwide, and students of all ages were soon eager to take advantage of the study’s physical, philosophical, and focusing, devoting their spare time in gyms, academies, and competitions.

Experience first-hand and in person.

Very few surpassed the highest accolades, and now on Saturday, August 12th, Len Brassard’s Family Martial Arts Center will host a once-in-a-lifetime premiere seminar headlined by GrandMaster Sifu Richard “Huk” Planas.

Due to his jam-packed travel schedule, seating for this event is limited and will sell quickly. To purchase your $50.00 attendee pass, call the office at 978 – 342 – 9911

Unique critique from the hip

Richard Planas epitomizes the straightforward approach to teaching and will, admittedly, deliver you an honest assessment of your progress, form, or step-by-step body mechanics. He believes in hard work from qualified instructors and students, regardless of age or level.

One question he is often asked pertains to advising interested or beginning students on what to expect when devoting to a study. His reply is most often the same as is noted in the following:

“My advice is that you have to know what you’re getting into. This is a martial art to save your butt in the street. If you don’t train hard and realistically, it won’t be there to save you. It’s a lot of hard work, it’s not magic.” [1]

Mr. Len Brassard welcomes and embraces a no-nonsense approach to teaching and commits his own similar values. One thing is for certain, both multi dan black belts put all they have into ensuring their students learn to the utmost ability. Sifu Master Planas has been quoted as saying:

“I didn’t plan to be a karate instructor. As I said earlier, I was a musician at the time. It’s just something that happened. I started teaching when I was an orange belt. Art means a lot to me, and that is why sometimes, in my classes, I yell and scream and howl, but that is only because I care and I want things done properly and correctly. I’ve seen people teach with a cigarette in one hand and a can of beer in the other telling the students what to do just to keep them busy. You can tell these people don’t care much about the students or/and Kenpo.” [2](sic)

Mark your calendar and start to make your mark.

When you attend this seminar, you will be enthralled by being in the presence of a disciplinarian with a lion’s heart of passion for the code of Martial Arts, so start preparing yourself for this life-altering experience.

Whether with weaponry, open hands, or block, kick, and defense, the influences of his mentor and legend Ed Parker will come to life. Huk Planas’s personal blend of Kenpo and cultural Filipino kali will remain with you all through your training with us and beyond. Truly, more than just a high-flying kick-and-punch demonstration.
